The Joy of Serving
“Just say yes.” I do not believe that I am quoting scripture with those three simple words but I do feel that it is the Holy Spirit’s leading to just say yes when asked to help with activities that further the kingdom of God and are in line with the mission of our church:
The mission of St. Michael’s by-the-Sea is to be a beacon of God’s truth and love through the richness of traditional Anglican worship, by equipping the saints to bear witness to Christ wherever they may be, and by sharing in Christ’s work of reconciliation and healing in the world.
Stewardship in the church most often is associated with faithful giving. I believe giving of one’s time is a part of that. When we think of tithing we think of giving money. Is it not appropriate to think of tithing of our time as well as our money? God is so faithful and has made promises to us, his children if we are faithful to Him. One of those promises is found in Malachi 3:10 where it says:
Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.
I like the idea of a blessing like this from God. It is an added bonus to the joy of serving. And so I just say yes. If you would like to join me in saying yes, and serving at our Sunday morning coffee hour I invite you to call the church office or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
