As defined by Wikipedia: Stewardship is an ethic that embodies the responsible planning and management of resources. When asked to lead a Stewardship Committee, it’s important to know what Wikipedia says you’re leading… but that definition isn’t quite concrete, now is it? Stewardship is one of those words that can have a multitude of meanings that can be different for each person and situation. For one person, stewardship can mean committing their time to help others and for another it can mean thinking about how contributing to the collection plate will effect their finances. For the Vestry, the word will likely bring up the subject of property maintenance and budget lines. The great thing is, stewardship is really all of those things and so much more.
Over two calendar years, a small committee of dedicated parishioners has gathered to discuss stewardship, which included the task of resurrecting a traditional pledge drive for St. Michael’s by-the-Sea. With this, the Stewardship Commission is happy to report that in the second year of returning to pledge driving, the response was a wonderful success. In merely four weeks of the RSVP 2015 Stewardship Campaign, 38% of St. Michaels’ active members committed to contribute financially to their Parish, by turning in their pledge cards. What a phenomenal feat! The act of responding with your pledge card is a sign of personal and spiritual commitment to the Parish of St. Michael’s by-the-Sea. The Stewardship Commission and Vestry sincerely thank you for your participation and look forward to a wonderful and blessed 2015!
