On June 15th, 2015, St. Michael’s by-the-Sea was awarded a $23,400 grant from the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation which will provide for the establishment of two professional pickleball courts!  A racquet sport created for all ages, skill levels, and abilities, pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. Pickleball is a high-spirited recreational activity that is growing in popularity nationally and internationally. People of all ages — from youth, to adults and seniors — are able to participate in pickleball, making it a unique multi-generational sport. St. Michael’s is currently undergoing a redevelopment project of the frontage property along Carlsbad Boulevard, which will include a park-like environment for neighbors and visitors to enjoy. The grant will provide the central point of this vision with the installation of two professional pickleball courts that would be open for use by all members of the community.  Thanks to the Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, and thanks be to God!
