Starting in our first years of life, the majority of our time is spent with people close to our own age. We have playgroups, go to school, and join in extracurricular activities with children our age.
As we get older the lines become more blurred, but we generally interact with people of the same age and in a similar life phase. Oftentimes the church is no exception. Most modern churches reflect this cultural trend, holding entire services segregated by age group.
This is not inherently bad – it allows for education and activities appropriate to the developmental level and culture of each age and stage. However, it is unfortunate if we forget that we are all part of the same community, whether we’re 2 or 92.
St. Michael’s intentionally provides opportunities for all generations to experience worship and fellowship together. Though we are many, we are one body in Christ, created to live together in community with one another and with our Lord!
Grandparents Day is one such opportunity. It is a chance for the youngest and the most experienced members of our church to honor one another.
This year’s Grandparents Day celebration was a great success! Loved ones posed for Polaroids, enjoyed vintage candies and sodas, and shared in conversation. Over 50 people participated in the festivities.
