The harvest has played an important role throughout the ages in societies all over the world. For us who live in 21st century San Diego, the importance and meaning of the harvest can sometimes get lost. At St. Michael’s we gathered for an intergenerational celebration of a symbolic harvest on Sunday, October 26th. We drank cider and ate pumpkin bread. We decorated with hay bales, fall leaves, and gourds. We remembered not only the blessing of abundant food, but also meditated on our role as seeds who grow when we are surrounded by the soil of the Word of God. As we enter the holiday season, may we remember to stay grounded in the Word and continue to grow in Christ.
