St. Michael’s schedules intergenerational events once a month during Christian Formation (select Sundays during the program year at 9:15 am in the Parish Hall). During this special time, all generations gather to celebrate the life of the church as ONE parish community.
Intergenerational events provide a unique and wonderful opportunity for relationship-building. Intentionally planned activities allow for members young and old to grow together as a family.
Research shows intergenerational relationships benefit older adults by enhancing socialization, encouraging life-long learning, increasing emotional support and improving health. Youth and children also experience many benefits: greater social skills, increased positive behavior and stability. Within a community, fostering intergenerational relationships dispels stereotypes, conserves historical and cultural traditions, inspires collaboration, and promotes a sense of personal and societal identity.*
