Lent, Desert

For Christians, Lent is a time of penitence and reflection. It is a time in which we seek God’s mercy and ask His forgiveness for things we have done and things we have left undone.

Throughout this season we look inwardly and closely examine ourselves and our relationship with God. We reflect on the things in our lives that hinder and prevent us from growing closer to God. We uncover areas in our lives that need changing through the healing power of the Holy Spirit. We examine what it truly means to be a disciple of Jesus and how we live that out in our everyday lives.

Jesus came into to this world to suffer, die, and rise from the dead. That was his role and his purpose as the Messiah. He endured suffering and death so that the world could have life through him. It is through his death and resurrection that our sins were cleansed and our relationship with God healed. Jesus’ death was not a defeat, but THE greatest victory. Christ conquered sin and he conquered Satan.

As we begin our Lenten sojourn, let us strive to be disciples of Christ. Let us allow ourselves to journey through the desert with Christ and allow him to lead us in our lives. By his mercy, may we come to share in the victory he has won on our behalf.
