The world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, Operation Christmas Child, uses gift-filled shoeboxes to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world.
Since 1993, this outreach, facilitated by Samaritan’s Purse, has collected and delivered more than 124 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 150 countries and territories. In 2015, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoebox gifts to reach another 11 million children.
Now is the perfect time to take advantage of back-to-school and summer clearance sales to fill a box at little expense. When you’re shopping at discount stores like Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree, consider collecting the following items to fill a shoebox: toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and notes of encouragement.
This Sunday look for Operation Christmas Child pre-made shoeboxes in the Parish Hall. Filling them can be a fun and meaningful project for the whole family! Return filled boxes, along with a $7 suggested donation for shipping, to the Parish Hall the week of November 12th – 15th.
Samaritan’s Purse sends thousands of these boxes to children all over the world, many of whom would have no Christmas at all without receiving a box from a generous American. Why not help to make this Christmas a special one?
