On February 28th at 6pm, SOUL youth broke a 30 hour fast with the bread and wine of Holy Communion followed by a delicious potluck meal. Beginning on Friday at noon, students began fasting as a concrete reminder of the hundreds of millions of people around the world who live in chronic hunger. During the weekend they played games to simulate living in poverty, without reliable access to fresh water or food. They also completed a service project at Solutions Farms. Located in Vista, this aquaponics farm is part of North County Solutions for Change, an organization whose goal is to solve family homelessness right here in North County.

In addition to the symbolic efforts of fasting alongside those who have no food and serving our local community, they also fundraised over $1400. In a world where nearly 1 in 5 people live on less than $1.25 a day, the money we raised will feed 3 children for more than a year, or more than 40 children for one month. With the help of the entire congregation, SOUL Youth is making a real difference in the world. Thank you for your support!
