Vacation Bible School is a safe, welcoming environment for children to learn about Jesus, for teenagers to learn valuable life skills, and for adults to step into leadership roles. But the St. Michael’s program doesn’t stop there! We encourage campers and volunteers to look beyond themselves to the larger community.

For the past several years, St. Michael’s has purposefully participated in meaningful, kid-driven outreach projects, called Operation Kid-to-Kid.

This summer, St. Michael’s is partnering with RefugeeNet, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego that serves refugees from around the world. As of 2015, there were an estimated 4.413 million refugees from countries in Africa, some of whom have found themselves in San Diego county. RefugeeNet is working to serve these adults and children in a variety of ways.

Many refugees arrive in a new country without knowledge of the local language. RefugeeNet is working to help refugee children learn English and find success in school by providing a tutoring program 3 times a week for about 100 children. Literacy is key for these children as they begin to find their way in the public school system.

RefugeeNet has asked for donations of new and gently used picture and chapter books. Please take time to sift through your home library with your children or purchase a book to contribute toward this book drive! Monetary donations are also gladly welcomed. Books will be collected throughout VBS week.

Peace be with you!
